Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a plastic surgery that raises the position of the breasts for a more youthful appearance. By tightening the surrounding area and removing excess skin, breasts that sag or point downwards are lifted and reshaped. The board-certified plastic surgeons at Huntington Plastic Surgery Institute are specialists in creating flattering outcomes that delight patients and help them to look and feel their very best.

What Does a Breast Lift Do?

Breasts naturally change over time due to a loss of elasticity in the skin caused by aging, weight changes, pregnancy, and lactation – not to mention gravity. These changes can result in a less flattering overall physique and silhouette. A breast lift raises the vertical projection of the breasts, providing a more youthful look and renewed self-esteem.

More specifically, a breast lift improves the vertical position and to some degree, the shape of a patient’s breasts by correcting sagging and downward projection of the nipples. A breast lift, however, may somewhat reduce a patient’s cup size and does not significantly alter the horizontal projection of the patient’s breasts when not combined with a breast augmentation. Plastic surgeons can also reduce the size of enlarged areolas during the procedure.

Patient Information

What’s the difference between a breast lift and a breast augmentation (breast implants)?
A breast lift enhances breasts that are sagging, correcting vertical positioning of the nipples and improving the overall appearance. Breast augmentation surgery largely addresses the size of the breasts, increasing the volume either through implants or natural fat transfer. Breast augmentation can also adjust the horizontal projection of the patient’s breasts. While the two procedures focus on fixing different issues, they are also frequently combined.
Am I a good candidate for breast lift surgery?
Ideal candidates for a breast lift should be in good health and at a stable weight. It’s also important that they have realistic expectations about their surgery. Interested patients are encouraged to schedule a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons to find out if a breast lift is right for them, either on its own or paired with another procedure. The physician will discuss a patient’s options in detail and make sure they understand all of the benefits and risks of a procedure before making a decision.
