Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation continues to be one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures. While it is highly requested among younger patients, it is just as beneficial for those losing volume in their lips due to aging. Whether you are dissatisfied with thin lips or you’re looking for a more voluminous and sensuous appearance, a lip augmentation can provide you with lips that look full and natural. Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons and medical professionals at Huntington Plastic Surgery Institute understands the skill and care required to enhance such a delicate and focal facial feature.

What does Lip Augmentation Do?

Lip augmentation increases the volume of a patient’s lips through fillers or fat injections. The lips’ size and shape can greatly impact an individual’s overall facial appearance, providing a more youthful and attractive look for those with lips that may otherwise appear somewhat thin or flat. Please note that small irregularities can occur in some cases. If these become an issue, contact your physician.

What’s the Difference between a Filler and Fat Injection?
Lip augmentation is most commonly done via dermal lip fillers or fat injections. Each offers its advantages as well as variables to consider.

Dermal Lip Fillers

Also referred to as hyaluronic acid fillers, dermal fillers are the most highly requested treatments used to add volume to the lips. The procedure is injection-based and can be completed in under an hour. With no recovery downtime needed, patients can schedule their treatment just as simply as they would for a visit to a hairstylist or spa treatment. Results are immediately apparent though maintaining the look requires regular visits as the results are temporary.

Fat Injection

Fat injections require liposuction to harvest fat from another area of the body. The major benefit of this option is that because the substance used to fill the lips is real body fat, the lips may look and feel more natural. The effects of fat injections tend to last longer than the typical dermal lip filler. Obviously, fat injections are slightly more invasive due to the required liposuction. As such, the treatment requires more time to complete and some downtime. However, if liposuction is also a desired treatment, it’s a chance to take care of two issues simultaneously.

Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Augmentation?
It’s important to remember that a lip augmentation will look different on each individual. While looking to others with fillers or injections is a good way to get an idea of what might be possible, we strongly encourage all our patients to ensure that they have realistic expectations regarding what a lip augmentation can do for them, specifically. A doctor will carefully explain both the risks and benefits of the procedure before it is performed.
